The Richard (Yogi) Crowe Memorial Scholarship Fund offers contributors the unique opportunity to honor the late Mr. Crowe by supporting students who will be tomorrow’s leaders.
The Fund has been established as a perpetual endowment and plans are to contribute raising money to meet the increasing costs of higher education. The Fund is incorporated under the laws of North Carolina as a non-profit, tax exempt corporation . All gifts are deductible. Accountability statements will be sent annually upon request. As of December 2021, 114 enrolled members have been assisted for a total of $390,001. Many of the students are now working in Cherokee in professional positions in the schools, service agencies and tribal programs.
The year 2025 will be the 40th anniversary of the Yogi Crowe Memorial Scholarship Fund. The current Board of Directors is proposing that former grant recipients, present and past board members and others donate $40, $400, $4,000 or multiples of 40s such as 80, 120, etc. in 2025. All contributions will be added to the perpetual endowment fund from which grants to students are made three times a year from the spendable income. Please be thinking about donating $40, $400, $4,000 or any other amount to the Yogi Crowe Memorial Scholarship Fund now or in 2025. The IRS Form 990 is available upon request. IRS Form 990 is for tax-exempt organizations, nonexempt charitable trusts, and section 527 political organizations, they file this form to provide the IRS with the information required by section 6033.

Memorials are the way of paying the lasting tribute to special friends and loved ones at their death or honoring them for special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries or holidays. All memorials are placed in the endowment fund and the earnings are used to assist enrolled members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians working on graduate and post-graduate degrees. It is the gift that keeps on giving.
When there is a death in your family, request that the obituary include that memorials be made to the Richard (Yogi) Crowe Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 892, Cherokee, NC 28719. Contributions may also be made to the Yogi Crowe Memorial Scholarship Fund in honor of friends or loved ones for their birthday or Christmas – a unique gift! An acknowledgment of each memorial gift is sent to the family of the person in whose name the gift is made so be sure to include their name and address. No amount is mentioned unless requested.
